What is Good Friday?
Good Friday is a bank holiday across all four UK nations. It is the Friday before Easter Sunday, so its calendar date changes each year.
The date is calculated from Easter and checked against all three GOV.UK divisions: England and Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland. The entry is marked UK-wide only when those official lists agree.
Good Friday is two days before Easter Sunday. It should not be confused with Easter Monday, whose regional coverage differs because Scotland does not list Easter Monday as a bank holiday.
- Applies in:
- UK-wide
Movable bank holiday: the date depends on Easter (Good Friday and Easter Monday) and changes every year.
